Gujarat’s Dholera International Airport, an Upcoming Air Travel Hub With Global Connectivity for 3-5m Flyers
In accordance with India’s strategy for civil aviation in 2040, there should be 190–200 operational airports serving more than 1 billion passengers by that time. According to reports, the price tag for India’s forthcoming international airports, which include Navi Mumbai Airport and Noida Jewar Airport, will be staggering $45–50 billion. An important step towards turning India into a trillion-dollar economy is Gujarat’s Dholera International Airport, which will soon replace Ahmedabad International Airport. As soon as the news broke out of this upcoming air travel hub, the prices for dholera sir residential plots have also seen a rocket-high demand.
Dholera Airport, Gujarat’s third international airport, would be second to Ahmedabad International Airport in terms of connectivity and passenger volume. The airport is anticipated to surpass the yearly traffic-handling capacity, domestic and international, of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport (AMD), and handle 5 million passengers annually after construction is finished in phases. Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a Rs. 1305-cr. plan for phase 1 of Dholera International Airport during a cabinet meeting on June 14, 2022. The airport will act as a second gateway to Ahmedabad once the first phase of development is finished in 48 months.
If everything goes according to plan, the airport, which is expected to cost more over Rs 2000 crore, would begin accepting international passengers in July 2024. When it comes to industrial growth, Gujarat has always been a step ahead, and the Dholera International Airport project is another stride in the same direction. The airport, a crucial component of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project, will connect Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), India’s first smart and futuristic metropolis, to various locations throughout the globe. This is an additional reason why dholera smart city plot price are not going to come down any soon.
The Dholera International Airport in Gujarat is slated to be a brand-new airport with top-notch amenities. The Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL) was established in 2012 as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with an initial budget of INR 2,000 crore. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) then acquired a 51% ownership in the business and, in 2019, they agreed to build the airport with the state government through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). After the pandemic temporarily halted the construction progress for a few months, AAI recently released a request for proposals for the airport’s first phase, which is expected to cost more than Rs. 1000 crore.
1426 hectares of land have already been set aside by the government for the airport, and an additional 75 hectares will be used for businesses. Two runways will be present at the airport, one of which will be 4,000 metres long. The second phase will include construction of the other runway. In addition, the airport will be furnished with amenities like parking lots, hotels, a convention centre, and a cargo terminal. Numerous aviation-related events will be scheduled to boost local employment in the airport’s vicinity.
Dholera Airport will share the growing air traffic load on Ahmedabad International Airport, the seventh busiest airport in the nation, with its roomy terminals for next-generation aircraft operated by international carriers on business flights to Ahmedabad. Despite having a 7 million passenger capacity, Ahmedabad Airport currently handles 11 million passengers annually. Notably, Dholera Airport would be the second entry point for the increased inbound and outgoing traffic, contributing to the seamless operation of air traffic in India’s eastern area.
Gujarat’s Dholera International Airport’s location is another appealing feature. Ahmedabad is only 80 kilometres from the new airport, while the smart city is 20 km away. Due to its advantageous position in the Saurashtra area, the airport will have access to important state cities including Rajkot, Vadodara, and Anand.
In order to ensure efficient transportation to the future airport, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) purchased a 120-meter wide strip of land between Ahmedabad and Dholera. 30 metres of the strip will be utilised for a metro rail link, and 90 metres will be used to build a 6-lane road that will connect to Dholera Airport immediately.
