Gujarat’s Dholera will be the the global epicentre of semiconductor excellence
Gujarat’s Dholera has always been in the news since the smart city in Dholera was announced a few years back by Hon. PM Narendra Modi. The infrastructure, locations, facilities as well as the Dholera sir residential plots price have been attracting the investors as well people who are interested to book residential plots in the Special Investment Region in Dholera. Positive news related to infrastructure development as well as investments from Indian and foreign companies in Dholera have been flooding since past few years making the investors curious about the project.
Now, another great news is coming from the renowned Tata Group which aims to make Dholera the global epicentre of semiconductor excellence. We will talk about it in more detail in this article
The Gujarat SemiConnect Conference 2024
To kick off the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference 2024, officials from the governments of Gujarat and India, Taiwanese diplomats, and executives from US-based Micron and Tata Group convened at Gandhinagar’s Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre on July 19. The state’s local businesses were urged by the officials to broaden and diversify their product offerings in order to integrate into the developing semiconductor ecosystem.
Support from regional suppliers will be essential as Micron, Tata Electronics (TEPL) in partnership with PSMC, Taiwan, and CG Power in partnership with Renesas, Japan, aim to establish their factories in Sanand and Dholera. A Tata electronics semiconductor production facility will likely require over 300 different local suppliers in order to operate effectively.
Collaboration with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation
The government gave its approval to Tata’s request earlier this year to collaborate with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to construct a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dholera, Gujarat. By 2026, the fabrication is anticipated to be completed and under progress. Tata Electronics wants to construct India’s first AI-enabled state-of-the-art factory for Rs 91,000 crore.
With the use of data analytics and machine learning, it will be equipped with next-generation factory automation capabilities, enabling it to produce up to 50,000 wafers each month. The semiconductor fabrication facility aims to produce chips that cater to the increasing needs of various industries, including artificial intelligence, automotive, computing and data storage, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCUs), power management ICs, and high-performance computing logic.
Collaboration with the Gujarat Government
The Gujarat government has been able to secure three of the four semiconductor projects that have been approved by the Indian government and over 80 percent of the total investments allotted for the semiconductor program by implementing proactive and pragmatic strategies. With these initiatives, Gujarat is positioned to have a major and long-lasting effect on both the country and the international supply chain.
Tata Electronics in Gujarat has pledged to invest $11 billion in our Dholera fab project, which will create over 20,000 employment at this point in the project’s development. More than 2,000 ecosystem partners and suppliers will be brought in by this first semiconductor fab in Dholera; some of them have already begun working with the Tata group.
