Lockheed Martin Has an Eye on Dholera SIR; Solar Battery Manufacturing Unit May Come Up

As the Government of Gujarat declared in the Vibrant Summit recently that they are looking forward to military manufacturing units to allot the land in Dholera SIR (Special Investment Region), it has received quite a huge response from foreign investors. The very first among them were Airbus, a multinational company that designs, manufactures and sells civil and military aeronautical products across the world. Lockheed Martin is the next to express its interest in setting up its solar battery manufacturing facilities in Dholera SIR.

Dholera smart city is located almost 80 kilometers away from Ahmedabad. The investors find this to be a fine spot to set up their manufacturing units.

The managing director of Dholera Industrial City Development Limited (DICDL), Jai Prakash Shivahare said that they had interacted with Lockheed Martin at the Defence Expo in Chennai and found them to be very much interested to invest in Dholera. The company, in the Defence Conclave organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), said that it strongly wants to set up its solar battery storage unit in Dholera SIR.

After the Government declared to set up world’s largest solar park of 5000MW in Dholera, the interested company has been invited to make a visit to the site so that this plan could be taken to the next level. The company has assured to come in June as per Shivahare’s statement.

The IAS officer also added that the cost of solar power has gone down as low as Rs 3 per unit and thus it is a good idea to store the power during the day time.

All over India, there are total eight smart city plans proposed and Dholera SIR is the biggest among them as reported by the Dholera real estate news. As the Government of Gujarat recently announced setting up 5000 MW solar park at Dholera MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) has also sent its approval. The IAS officer said that the tender of Phase-I will be out in June. Shivahare also said that In the last Vibrant Gujarat summit, we had signed a MoU with Airbus too.

Only in the last year, The Indian Express had reported that Airbus was in search of locations at Mundra and Dholera to set up a Panther helicopter manufacturing unit. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) will be taking up a major stake in the matter now. The ground-breaking ceremony is expected to take place this year.

As per reports, The Indian and the Gujarat Government will spend Rs 15000 crore in making the connection better from Dholera to the nearest hubs. Rs 7000 crore for expressway and metro rail each, Rs 2000 crore for the airport and Rs 300 cr for rails have been allotted already. DICDL is also planning to arrange field trips to Dholera soon so that the people get a chance to see the development, as Shivahare adds seeing is believing.
