Dholera Sir, the Sindhu City of Gujarat
Sarkhej and Dholera (SIR) are located in Ahmedabad, 100 kilometers apart. This place is going to be far larger than Ahmedabad because of how much area there is. This will be the location of an ultramodern city similar to Singapore. This location is going to become Gujarat’s semiconductor hub, just as The City of Sinchu in Taiwan has become a global center for semiconductors. Lots of business will be flourishing here, not only with semiconductors. There will be companies in the fields of high-tech engineering, agro- and food processing, aviation, medicines, and defense. This is a large area of undeveloped land. While some plant construction has begun, the majority of road work has been finished. These current and future developments will definitely increase the residential projects in Dholera SIR as more and more people will be attracted to buy the properties in Dholera SIR.
Taiwan, a pioneer in Semiconductors and relations with India
Nestled on an island off the coast of China, Taiwan provided the world with a model for the semiconductor chip business that anybody could follow. Japan and the United States have recently begun to broaden the scope of the semiconductor chip sector. Why then should India be left out? India has also made the decision to join the semiconductor chip market. Just like chips are created throughout the world, they will also be made in India—and in Gujarat, no less!
Gujarat and Assam semiconductor chip facilities have had their foundation stones set. In Gujarat, two plants—one in Sanand and the other in Dholera—are planned to open. Assam is where the third plant will emerge. This implies that Indian engineers won’t need to leave the country in the near future. Although there is now a scarcity of engineers in Taiwan’s chip industry, jobs will be available at home. Taiwan requires engineers from India.
Taiwanese company partners in semiconductor plant to be built in Dholera SIR
At an estimated cost of Rs 91,000 crore, the Tata Group of India and the Pavchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan are collaborating to establish a facility in Dholera. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually placed the plant’s foundation stone in March 2024. Up to 14 nanometer-sized chips will be included in the factory. Here, chips with a diameter of 28 nanometers to 14 nanometers will be produced. Devices like tablets, laptops, cellphones, and electric cars will all use this chip. In Taiwan, PSMC operates six chip foundries. The Gujarati plant would be able to produce 50,000 wafers per month once it is operational.
Gujarat’s first semiconductor chip will be produced in 2026 as the Tata and PSMC plant is scheduled to begin manufacturing by the end of 2026. This plant’s commissioning will result in the creation of 50,000 employment. With 8,000 workers, Taiwan’s PSMC launched semiconductor manufacturing in Dholera in partnership with Tata. PSMC uses an open foundry operation model to produce chips that are designed with cutting edge technologies to meet customer demands.
