Indian Conglomerate Vedanta and Foxconn Choose Dholera Sir for Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility

A joint venture between Indian conglomerate Vedanta and Foxconn, a leading electronics manufacturer, has announced Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) near Ahmedabad as the location for their semiconductor and display manufacturing facility. The facility is expected to be India’s first-ever semiconductor manufacturing facility and is currently in the advanced stage of evaluation by the Indian government.

The two companies will invest a total of INR 1.54 trillion in the facility, which is considered to be the largest-ever corporate investment in the history of independent India. Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-27

The Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-27, which was announced by the state government in July 2021, is expected to provide substantial subsidies and incentives for the project. The policy provides eligible projects with a 75% subsidy on the purchase of the first 200 acres of land for manufacturing units. Eligible projects will also receive high-quality water at a subsidized rate of INR 12 per cubic metre for the first five years. Additionally, the state government will reimburse investors 100% of the stamp duty paid for the first time on taking land on lease, sale, or on land transfer to encourage investment in the policy.
